Course to teach iPhone application creation
Sunday, July 05, 2009  By Adrian Weckler
A new service to teach Irish companies how to create their own iPhone applications has been launched.

AppSchool.ie aims to show the basics of how to code applications and utilities for release on Apple's App Store.

The App Store is the fastest growing online mobile applications repository, with more than 50,000 programs available for download to the iPhone.

“The people I'd expect to see sitting there would have some software development, but no Apple Development,” said Daniel Heffernan, course presenter.” I'd expect a lot of them to be running their own pieces of software development, and to want to start developing apps for their company.”

The venture is being backed by entrepreneur Patrick Collison, who is a former BT Young Scientist winner, and Damien Mulley, an online marketing consultant.

“I think that any company which already has an online presence can easily extend that presence into the iPhone,” said Heffernan. “Even if it's just a blog or info you're feeding them, you could easily work that into an application. What we'll do is to give enough detail to start something.”

AppSchool's first course is in late July, in Dublin, and will cost €1,500 for a week. Course details are available at www.appschool.ie.
