70,000 Siptu workers to join pay-cuts protests 01/02/2010 - 07:27:38
Up to 70,000 more public sector workers, members of Siptu, will today join widespread action against the pay cuts introduced in December's budget.
Siptu members across the health, education, local authority and state agency sectors will join their colleagues from other unions by refusing to cooperate with change, and engaging in work to rule.
Union president Jack O'Connor insists the action is aimed at helping negotiations, not "starting a war with the Government".
Elsewhere, the strike committee of the Civil Public and Services Union will meet today, amid concerns that they could announce an escalation of their campaign of action.
That could see whole-day bans on answering phones, as well as further lunchtime protests, which have so far hit places social welfare and passport offices.
