CIF: Building sector in danger of 'completely disappearing'
15/03/2010 - 11:05:03

The Construction Industry Federation (CIF) is warning that the sector is in danger of completely disappearing as the Government unwinds its investment in transportation, education, health and water.

New research - being published by the CIF today - shows that the value of projects for which shortlists of contractors are being created is running substantially below the Government's own commitment.

The organisation is warning of significant job losses and says the number of people directly employed in the sector may fall as low as a 100,000 by the start of next year.

Director General of the CIF Tom Parlon wants more transparancy and said the Government should publish a list of all projects that it intends to start this year.
